We love a good cruise, the vibes, the views, the VIP energy. But let’s be real: cruise ships are like floating neighborhoods, and just like any neighborhood… there are unspoken rules. You might not see them on the welcome pamphlet, but if you break one? Oh, people will talk.

Let’s get into the cruise etiquette nobody wants to say out loud, but we will (because we love y’all and we want you to sail like pros).

1. Don’t Hog the Loungers Ever

This one is legendary: people waking up at 6AM just to “reserve” chairs with a towel, then ghosting for hours. Nah fam. Chair hogging is the universal cruise sin. If you’re not actively using it, leave it open for someone else who is.

🎤 Christy’s Take: “Sis, that lounger doesn’t belong to your towel and flip-flops. Use it or lose it.”

2. Quiet Doesn’t Mean Boring

Some folks are on that cruise for peace, not poppin’ bottles at 2AM in the hallway. Be mindful of noise in the late night hours (especially near staterooms). Want to party? Hit the club on Deck 15.

🎤 James’ Take: “If your turn-up has a soundtrack, it shouldn’t be playing outside Cabin 7261 at midnight.”

3. Buffets Are Not a Sprint

We get it, buffet life is the dream. But this is not a free-for-all. Respect the line, don’t touch food with your hands, and don’t pile crab legs like you’re building a seafood skyscraper.

✨ Bonus: Use hand sanitizer, y’all. Germs don’t take vacations.

4. Scarlet Night = Mandatory Fun (Yes, We Said It)

If your cruise has themed nights (especially on Virgin Voyages), show up and show out. Nobody wants to be the one person in jeans during an all-red extravaganza.

🎤 Christy’s Side-Eye: “You didn’t bring a single red outfit? We love you, but we’re judging just a little.”

5. Respect the Crew

Seriously. These amazing humans work hard, often away from family for months at a time. Smile, say thank you, tip when appropriate, and remember: they don’t control the weather, the itinerary, or the fact that the lobster ran out.

🙏 Be kind. Always.

6. Elevators Are a Shared Space… Not a Party Bus

It’s not the time to rehearse your line dance or hold the door while your cousin finishes a selfie. Keep it quick and keep it moving. Oh, and if you’re able-bodied, maybe let grandma grab that elevator space first.

🎤 James: “Stairs exist. Use ’em. Your step count will thank you.”

7. Be On Time for Excursions (Or Be Left Behind)

If your excursion says meet at 7:45 AM, that does not mean roll in at 8:15 with a mimosa and excuses. You’ll either delay the whole group or miss the tour completely.

⏰ Don’t be that person.

8. Cabin Hallways Are Not The Club

Yes, we love a late night laugh. But sound travels. If you're going back to your room at 2AM after karaoke and drinks… whisper like your mama is sleeping next door.

9. Take a Break from Your Phone

We know you wanna post every wave and every daiquiri. But take a moment to unplug and be present. Cruises are for connection, not just captions.

📵 PSA: Nobody wants to hear your FaceTime in the solarium, boo.

10. Let People Cruise Their Way

Some folks nap by the pool. Some zip-line over the ship. Some hit every trivia contest. Let people enjoy the cruise their way without judgment. (Unless they’re hogging loungers. Then we judge.)

🧳 Cruise Like You’ve Done This Before…

Whether it’s your first cruise or your fifteenth, the grown folks way to cruise is with class, kindness, and a touch of glam. These unspoken rules? They make the whole ship vibe better, and they keep your vacation unforgettable for the right reasons.
